A standard cleaning is maintenance. It assumes the house is already in decent shape and keeps it there: dusting the surfaces you can reach, wiping down kitchen counters and appliance fronts, cleaning toilets, tubs, showers, and sinks, then vacuuming and mopping. Done every week or two, it stops the house from sliding back into a weekend-long chore.
A deep cleaning is a reset. It covers everything in a standard clean and then goes after the buildup a regular visit doesn't have time for: baseboards and door frames, light switches, grease on cabinet fronts and backsplashes, soap scum and hard-water spots on shower glass, and the dust on ceiling fans and vents.
So which do you need? If it's been more than a month or two since the house had a thorough cleaning, or you've never had a professional clean before, start with a deep clean. Trying to keep up with standard visits on a house that hasn't been reset means each one spends its time catching up instead of maintaining.
After that first deep clean, most homes do well on a standard clean every week or two, with another deep clean once or twice a year. In Houston, bathrooms and kitchens build up faster than people expect because of the humidity, so spring and pre-holiday deep cleans are popular for a reason.
